Helping Take Your STEM Skills to the Next Level

Streamline your STEM learning specifically for job skills and goals

About Us

Future EDU Inc. (future EDU) is a Narrabri local not-for-profit community group whose vision is ‘To support the creation of a region of future ready citizens, have confidence and competence in STEM areas, and are ready to work with and for local organisations’.
The future EDU Committee consists of business, educational and community representatives who have come together to stimulate STEM based educational opportunities for the students and educators of the Narrabri Shire area.
If Narrabri Shire’s future workforce can experience a local workplace they are also more likely to identify relevant study subjects at school, TAFE, or University. We believe a young person increases their learning chances of success by understanding the application of STEM in their life, from daily tasks to workplace careers. We are encouraging you to support this initiative for our young people. This will improve our community’s success.

What is STEM?

STEM is an approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Through STEM, students develop key skills including:

  • Problem solving
  • Creativity
  • Critical analysis
  • Teamwork
  • Independent thinking
  • Initiative
  • Communication
  • Digital literacy

Why is STEM important?

The global economy is changing. Current jobs are disappearing due to automation and new jobs are emerging every day as a result of technological advances.

The continual advances in technology are changing the way students learn, connect and interact every day. Skills developed by students through STEM provide them with the foundation to succeed at school and beyond.

Employer demand for STEM qualifications and skills is high, and will continue to increase in the future. Currently, 75 per cent of jobs in the fastest growing industries require workers with STEM skills. To be competitive, the Australian workforce needs people who can adapt to a changing workplace.

STEM empowers individuals with the skills to succeed and adapt to this changing world.

%

of current jobs with skill shortages are in STEM fields.

%

of all new jobs will require skills in STEM.

%

of jobs will need digital skills in the next 2 to 5 years.

“The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future life.”
